Trip Anticipation

This year is our 40th wedding anniversary. Our gift to each other is a 3 week trip the the Netherlands. When we started planning this almost 6 months ago it seemed like it would never get here. Now it's only 3 weeks away! The excitement is incredible, but as our granddaughter Ellie once said "I think we should be panicing now!"

This will be our 4th trip to the Netherlands, which is the home where our grandparents emigrated from. It's a place where we just feel like we belong and we love being there. It's too bad that our families didn't continue to speak Dutch enough so that we'd still have that part of our heritage. Every trip is a chance to pick up a little more Dutch.

This trip we have rented an apartment for 3 weeks in Zevenhuizen so we get to be "temporary residents" instead of tourists. It isn't my dream of living the the Netherlands for a year to learn Dutch, but it's still exciting.

Here's some photos from previous trips.

Hindeloopen Harbor

The Bakery building on the Oudegracht in Utrecht where my grandparents came from.
"de Trouwe Wachter" - The Faithful Watchman - the molen in Tienhoven where my great-grandmother was born.
