Paris!

Yesterday we went for a new adventure - we rode the Thalys train from Rotterdam to Paris and back. Since renting a car is usually the best transport option for us, we've never ridden on a European train and we decided it was time to give it a go. Rotterdam to Paris is 2 1/2 hours! What a great experience.

It was a long day since we were on the first train at 7:00 a.m. and returned on the last train at 19:30, but it was sooooo worthwhile. We hadn't been to Paris in 8 years. It was so much fun just to wander the city and take it all in.

I don't remember who all the saints are that are carved into the front of Notre Dame, but the guy holding his own head is Saint Denis, patron saint of Paris. He was the Bishop of Paris when martyred for his Christian faith in about 250 A.D. After being decapitated, he picked up his head and walked 6 miles with it to Monmarte. Really - you can't make this stuff up!
